my Story (so far)

I began playing with cameras when my grandfather gave me his Kodak Brownie 8mm movie camera. I was in kindergarten and got “The Bug” early.

Beginning in 1984, I worked as an ENG-style director/cameraman who cut could “cut his own package”. For 10 years I shot broadcast programs & entertainment news packages for all of the major TV networks and movie studios. I switched to editing full time 13 years ago...and just in time for the digital non-linear revolution!

Today, with more than 25 years as a professional, I am living the dream. Filmmaking is my hobby-gone wild. I can produce and edit anything: long-form programming, effect-layered field packages and sizzling show opens.

Multi-Camera production is my favorite mode and I’ve worked in most genres including talk shows, reality TV, concert films, sports, entertainment publicity and documentary features.

I also have a strong interest in the technical side of editing. In the last few years I got into color-correcting, HD workflows and became an Apple Certified Pro on Final Cut.

Last year, I began a national speaking tour called “Multi-Cam Rocks! -Mastering Multi-Camera Workflows”. I give technical talks to Avid and Final Cut user groups and trade shows like NAB. And last September, I landed a publishing contract to write a book for Focal Press called “Mastering Multi-Camera Editing”. It will be available in November ’09.

Today, I live in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City with my wife Jennifer and my “seeing-eye dog” Maizie, a very cool Welsh Terrier.
